At Arenal Airport, we are committed to ensuring that all passengers can travel comfortably and with dignity, regardless of their mobility needs or other requirements. We offer a range of special assistance services in compliance with Costa Rican Law 7600 (Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities Act) and international aviation standards.
Pre-Booking Your Assistance
To ensure the best possible service, we recommend arranging special assistance at least 48 hours before your flight. Please contact your airline directly to book assistance services, as they coordinate these services with the airport.

Mobility Assistance
For passengers with reduced mobility or those who require wheelchair assistance.

Accessible Facilities at Arenal Airport
Accessible Restrooms
All restrooms throughout the terminal are equipped with accessible stalls. Family restrooms with changing tables are available in both pre-security and post-security areas.
First Aid Station
Medical assistance is available at the First Aid Station located near Gate 3. Staff are trained to assist passengers with various medical needs and can provide a quiet space for those who need it.
Sensory Room
A dedicated sensory room is available for passengers with autism, sensory processing disorders, or those who need a calm, quiet space. The room features adjustable lighting, comfortable seating, and sensory tools.
Accessible Routes
The entire terminal is accessible via ramps and elevators. Tactile walking surface indicators are provided for visually impaired passengers throughout the terminal.
Priority Parking
Designated accessible parking spaces are available close to terminal entrances in all parking areas. Valid disabled parking permits are required.
How to Request Assistance
Contact Your Airline
Special assistance should be requested through your airline at least 48 hours before your flight. This can typically be done when booking your ticket or by contacting the airline's customer service department.
Check-In at the Special Assistance Counter
Upon arrival at the airport, proceed to your airline's check-in desk and inform them that you have requested special assistance. They will direct you to the special assistance counter if necessary.
Airport Staff Assistance
A member of our staff will accompany you through check-in, security, and to your gate. For arriving passengers, staff will meet you at the aircraft and assist you through immigration, baggage claim, and to your ground transportation.
Service Animals
Service animals are permitted in all areas of the terminal. Costa Rican regulations require service animals to wear identifying harnesses or vests. No quarantine is required for service animals entering Costa Rica, but you will need to present:
- Proof of rabies vaccination (given at least 30 days before but within one year of entry)
- Health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days of travel
- Documentation certifying the animal as a trained service animal
