Runway Crossing Procedures
For Aircraft
Request Clearance
All aircraft must request and receive explicit clearance from ATC before crossing any runway. Use the appropriate ground control frequency.
Maintain Situational Awareness
Monitor both tower and ground frequencies. Be aware of all traffic in your vicinity, including takeoffs and landings on crossing runways.
Cross Expeditiously
When cleared to cross, do so without delay. Maintain appropriate taxi speed and exit the runway protection zone promptly.
Hold Short When Required
Stop at all hold-short lines unless specifically cleared to cross. Confirm holding short when requested by ATC.
For Ground Vehicles
Required Authorization
Only authorized vehicles with proper training and credentials may enter the movement area. All vehicles must be equipped with radio communication and high-visibility markings.
ATC Communication
Request permission from ground control before entering any taxiway or runway. Use standard phraseology and vehicle call signs.
Crossing Procedure
Cross runways at designated crossing points only. Confirm runway clearance with ATC before crossing. Cross perpendicular to the runway centerline.
Emergency Procedures
In case of vehicle breakdown on a runway, immediately notify ATC and activate emergency lights. Follow ATC instructions for evacuation.
Runway Hot Spots
The following areas require extra vigilance due to complex taxiway/runway intersections or historical incursion rates:
Taxiway A and Runway 07/25 Intersection
Complex intersection with multiple crossing taxiways. Maintain awareness of signage and markings.
Taxiway B Mid-field Crossing
Limited visibility due to terminal buildings. Approach with caution and verify clearance.
Maintenance Area Access Point
High volume of service vehicle traffic. Follow designated pathways and maintain communication.
Hot spots are marked in red on the airport diagram. For detailed airport diagrams, please refer to current aeronautical charts.
Runway Incursion Prevention
Clear Communication
Use standard phraseology. Read back all runway crossing clearances. If unclear about instructions, ask for clarification.
Pre-Taxi Planning
Review airport diagram before taxiing. Plan your route to minimize runway crossings. Brief all crew members on anticipated crossings.
Situational Awareness
Monitor both ground and tower frequencies. Be aware of surrounding traffic. Use aircraft/vehicle lights appropriately.
Continuous Training
All personnel must complete runway safety training annually. Report any safety concerns through the airport's safety management system.
